UPDATE! 6/9/11

Okay, so far. I love Boulder. The atmosphere, the people, and especially the mountains! I have done so many activities with so many more to do! Riding the bus with those who have never been on a bus was pretty fun. But getting lost downtown with a bunch of groceries and some of the other interns for about 4 hours was not fun at all but a great laugh now! It's lots of things to do here in Boulder. I've been to the Boulder Creek festival. Can you say fun!! I got on this fancy trampoline thats looks fun but when its really not! So pretty much I was screaming the whole time. We went on a scavenger hunt around Boulder. That got a bit competitive and Im not the competitive type. But the team I was on, we completed the mission successfully! But that was a lot of walking and trying to out smart the other teams. I think one of the best aspects so far has been some of the group activities. Getting to know each other and the other interns(SOARS). I had to leave for a week to attend a scholarship orientation, and I must say, I MISSED BOULDER AND EVERYONE HERE!But I did get to see my favorite dog, BELLA!! Some of the other things that I have done have been eating at a foreign restaurant, giving food away to the homeless, having to pick selected items when grocery shopping because you have to remember that you have to walk with those groceries and catch the bus and even run to it if need be, we also had a pot luck dinner at Val Sloan's house. The food was really good I must say. And her little boys, so smart and funny!! I had a great time over there. Did I mention, I work in the same building as her husband. Nice guy. But lets get down to business. Serious talk....WORK! I must say, the overall project is pretty interesting but the work...is not a walk in the park. It's only my first week of work and I feel like I have been working for a while. I'm pooped!! On top of that, we have homework for our writing class which is/will be beneficial in the long run. Not complaining but I know, I'm going to begin to feel a bit overwhelmed. Trying to stay on top it all is not going to be an easy task. But in the end, its all going to be worth it. I'm learning a lot and that is one thing I love to do. I can't really think of anything else that has went on or I could possibly say. But if I do, ill be sure to mention it in the next blog.

P.S. Thanks for the mac book!

The RESESS Selection

Applying for scholarships and internships before deadlines and also trying to study and do homework all at once, that was a bit stressful. But I knew it had to be done. I applied for multiple scholarships and internships and surprisingly I heard back from all of them but I'm going to talk about the one I chose. The one that I feel is just for me. RESESS! I was a bit slow at getting my materials in but Dr. Sloan kept me on my toes and made sure I got everything in on time. Before applying for internships and opportunities, I had previous knowledge of such things through my sister. She has had so many doors open up for her thanks to her hard work and that has inspired me even more to work harder at the things I do. The previous semester, I set a GPA goal and I actually accomplished it. For the first time in my life, things went according to plan. She did her summer internships in Africa and Texas, she applied to the SROP summer program and so did I, following in her footsteps. And really that is the only internship I really intended on applying to but NOAA came to my school and I saw what they had to offer so I decided I would go on and apply. I also received an email from my advisor telling me to take advantage of this opportunity which was the RESESS summer program. What do I have to lose? So I applied. I feel that I made the absolute best decision I could have ever possibly made in my whole entire lifetime. I picked RESESS and decided I would rather spend my summer in Boulder, Colorado. Dr. Sloan was such a big help, I knew that the people in charge of the program cared about their interns. They always keep you updated on what is going and make you feel welcomed! The route I am taking is totally different but inspired by my sister and mother. They are both so very happy and proud of me. I feel that RESESS is for me and I couldn't have picked a better opportunity!
